In September 1989 at the end of East Lothian Council’s Local History Year, a meeting was held in the old Tranent Library to gauge local support for starting a local history society. There was a very good turnout and it was agreed to go ahead. A few weeks later a founding committee was set up and our first talk was given in November 1989 by Michael Cox of Gullane History Society.
The Society meets at 7.30pm on the first Wednesday of the month between October and April in the Crookston Care Home, Sanderson’s Wynd, Tranent. Annual membership is £10 or £8 concession. Meetings are followed by tea and biscuits and the opportunity for informal chats between members. Visitors are always welcome.

THE APRIL AND MAY MEETINGS OF THE SOCIETY HAVE BEEN CANCELLED. HOPEFULLY WE WILL MEET AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER
