In September 1989 at the end of East Lothian Council’s Local History Year, a meeting was held in the old Tranent Library to gauge local support for starting a local history society. There was a very good turnout and it was agreed to go ahead. A few weeks later a founding committee was set up and our first talk was given in November 1989 by Michael Cox of Gullane History Society.
The Society meets at 7.00pm on the second Wednesday of the month between September and May in the Tranent Day Centre, Sanderson’s Wynd, Tranent. Annual membership is £10. Meetings are followed by tea and biscuits and the opportunity for informal chats between members. Visitors are always welcome.
